Barbe à Papa Teatro is a cultural association founded in Palermo and active since 2018. It deals with theatrical productions, training, and the creation of artistic and cultural projects. Barbe à Papa Teatro was founded by: Chiara Buzzone, Federica D’Amore, Totò Galati, Roberta Giordano, and Claudio Zappalà, to whom Nathan Tagliavini was added as technical director. The company has already produced the shows Il coro di Babele (2019), Mi ricordo (2020) and L’arte della resistenza (2022). The three shows form the trilogy Generation Y. 2024 sees the debut of La ricetta di Danilo (2024), a show focused on the figure of Danilo Dolci, for the centenary of his birth. Barbe à Papa Teatro is an independent group that does not have a permanent headquarters and has made the nomadism that characterizes it a value and a distinctive trait, as well as the origin of its artistic research. It mainly produces its works between Palermo and Partinico, and in all those places willing to offer a space for artistic residency. Its goal is to work exclusively on original dramaturgies that arise from the work of the company. The productions of Barbe à Papa Teatro are designed for an international audience and the texts are translated into English and French.

The company also organizes training workshops for actresses and actors, and workshops dedicated to children and adolescents. In 2020 it collaborated with the association Partinico Solidale, organizing training sessions for children and teenagers.
In 2022 it won the Europe Creative call which will fund “La Nomad House”, a project involving several European and North African countries and led by the Belgian company Les Nouveaux Disparus.

CLAUDIO ZAPPALÀ - Author, director and actor
Claudio Zappalà, actor, playwright and director from Catania, born in 1987. He studied at the ITACA – International Theatre Academy of the Adriatic and graduated from the School of Performing Arts Trades at the Teatro Biondo in Palermo, studying, among others, with Emma Dante, Gabriele Vacis, Christian Di Domenico, Sandro Maria Campagna. He has worked as an actor in shows by Emma Dante, ricci/forte, Armando Pugliese, Simone Luglio. In 2016, his first play Aspettando Antigone was staged—with which he won the first edition of the Cendic-Segesta award—directed by Mauro Avogadro. The text Aspettando Antigone was published by Il Glifo publishing house, in the collection Aspettando Antigone e altri racconti. In 2018, he founded the company Barbe à Papa Teatro and in 2019 debuted in the dual role of author and director with the show Il coro di Babele, winner of the 2019 Residenza Bellandi residency and the 2019 Milano Off Fringe Festival. With Barbe à Papa Teatro he also created Mi ricordo (2020), co-produced by Teatro Libero di Palermo, again in the dual role of author and director. From 2017 to 2020 he worked at the School of Performing Arts Trades at the Teatro Biondo in Palermo, coordinating educational activities, and since 2019 he has collaborated in managing the activities of La Vicaria, the home of the Sud Costa Occidentale company of Emma Dante. He leads workshops for professional actors and has worked as a teacher in the Theatre Literacy course directed by Emma Dante and at the Scuola Buio in Sala Acting School in Catania.

In 2018 she worked as a casting assistant for the film Le sorelle Macaluso by Emma Dante, and as an actress in the TV film Tutto il giorno davanti, by Luciano Manuzzi. She was in the cast of Le Rane, directed by G. B. Corsetti, for the 2018 theatre tour. In 2019, she was a singer and puppeteer in I Sette Peccati Capitali-sti, a traveling show on the Sassi of Matera, directed by G. B. Corsetti, produced by Teatro San Carlo of Naples and Fondazione Matera 2019. In October 2020 she debuted with the monologue Jehanne X, written and directed by Paolo Pintabona, a show that was among the winners of the Parola a Palermo competition, an initiative of the Teatro Biondo Stabile of Palermo and the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Palermo. She is currently attending the Advanced Training Course in Counseling applied to Theatre Therapy, at the European Theatre Institute, Rome. Born in Lugo, Emilia-Romagna, in 1997. Musician and audio and lighting technician.
He is dedicated to his activity as a musician with the bands In The Mood Swings (2015) and For a Loaf of Bread (2022), of which he is also a founding member.
He graduated in 2020 from the National Academy of Cinema and Performing Arts in Bologna, studying sound engineering with Alessandro Scala.
Since 2020 he has collaborated with the Ferrara Off theater as an audio and lighting technician, and since 2021 he has worked at the audio/video service Luxonix Srl.
