BEFORE THE TRIP
“Before the Journey” is a theatre workshop led by Claudio Zappalà, author and director from the Barbe à Papa Teatro company. It is a workshop aimed at actresses, actors, dancers, performers, playwrights, directors, but also collectives and theatre companies. It aims to be a moment of investigation that can guide each participant towards the beginning or continuation of a new story to tell, of a new show to create.
Before starting a new artistic research, I always ask myself two questions: what do I feel the need to investigate? Is it a theme that can be shared with a community?
To answer these two questions, it is necessary to take some time for observation. An observation turned inward and one turned to the context we inhabit. The workshop aims to be an opportunity to pause and look around; and to look inside oneself. Not a study of the same theme, but a listening to what each of us feels the need to tell, to also discover if there are common urgencies that bring us closer together.
The workshop aims to create a community that, even if only for a short period of time, will work in harmony by experiencing the strength of the collective; we will investigate the possibilities offered by the form of dialogue and monologue; we will develop authorial and directorial skills. All Barbe à Papa Teatro shows start from an inner and autobiographical research in relation to the theme studied. Participants will receive the tools to start this type of research, which they can then continue independently.
